André Breton (1896 à Tinchebray en Normandie – 1966 à Paris) est l’un des principaux représentants du mouvement surréaliste. Passionné par la littérature et les arts, il fréquente les cercles littéraires de Paris où il se lie d’amitié avec des écrivains et des artistes tels que Louis Aragon, Paul Éluard et Max Ernst.

En 1924, il publie le « Manifeste du surréalisme » dans lequel il expose sa vision de l’art et de la littérature comme moyens de libération de l’esprit et de l’inconscient. Ce manifeste donne naissance au mouvement surréaliste, qui se caractérise par une exploration de l’inconscient, une fascination pour l’imaginaire et un rejet des conventions sociales et artistiques.

Breton écrit de nombreux poèmes, romans et essais tout au long de sa vie, tels que « Nadja » ou « L’Amour fou ». Il organise également des expositions d’art surréaliste et collabore avec d’autres artistes pour créer des œuvres d’art collectives.
