Leur manifeste est gravé sur leur site : « We strive to promote the craft of DJing, DJ culture and camaraderie… Everything we do is for the love of the music. » (detroittechnomilitia.com).
DJ SET : mode d’emploi express
Tilt Shift Tuesday : quand Detroit s’invite à Naarm/Melbourne

À retenir pour News from Ibonoco
All Detroit, none of the BS ».

Detroit Techno Militia – Chronicle of a Motor City Infantry
Since 2002, the acronym DTM has echoed like a rallying cry in Detroit’s underground. Conceived as a cultural militia, the collective brings together DJs, producers, a label and a crew—a tight‑knit group united by one identity—with a clear mission: to protect and spread Detroit’s techno DNA wherever people dance, ideally on vinyl rather than compressed MP3s.
Their structure borrows from army hierarchies: the Home Team for the soldiers stationed in the 313 (T.Linder, DJ Seoul, Darkcube, etc.) and Recon 313 for the scouts deployed across Europe and Australia. In the summer of 2007 they made history with the DTM 5 × 5 format—five DJs lined up on five analogue turntables—then stole the show at Movement Festival 2011 after bagging a Detroit Music Award the previous year (17 April 2010). Their manifesto is etched into their website: “We strive to promote the craft of DJing, DJ culture and camaraderie… Everything we do is for the love of the music.” (detroittechnomilitia.com).
DJ SET: A QUICK PRIMER
A DJ set is neither a live hardware performance nor a remix: it is the art of chaining pre‑existing tracks to build a continuous sonic narrative. Turntables, mixer, headphone cueing, beat‑matching… The discipline belongs in clubs, on radio or in streams, and differs from a live‑set where the music is produced in real time.
The Artist – T.Linder, Sergeant‑Major of the Militia
Born on Detroit’s east side, T.Linder champions a working‑class approach to the mix: two Technics, slamming records, zero dead air. Schooled as a teenager by the Wizard (Jeff Mills) and Gary Chandler radio shows, he prefers “taking risks,” scratches and wild stylistic swings included. Co‑founder of the DTM label, he has criss‑crossed countless North‑American clubs, released his first EP in 2007 and remains fiercely loyal to vinyl: “I’ll spin wax as long as labels keep pressing it,” he says (movementfestival.com).
Tilt Shift Tuesday: When Detroit Lands in Naarm/Melbourne
Every Tuesday, New Guernica club (64 Smith St, Collingwood) turns into a hybrid studio: bodies on the dance‑floor, online community on Twitch, creating what the organisers call “the blurred‑line experience.” The Tilt Shift concept—launched in 2017 by artist Stockholm Syndrome—embraces a 50/50 balance between IRL (In Real Life, the crowd in the club) and URL (Uniform Resource Locator, the online broadcast): sweat on the floor, hype in the chat (tiltshiftmelbourne.com).
On 11 February 2025, the series hosted T.Linder for a 100 % Detroit set, captured in high‑definition and uploaded the next day. Across nearly two hours the Militia’s soldier unleashes acid techno, electro‑bass and a few Motor City classics, all cut exclusively on vinyl.

Key Takeaways for News from Ibonoco
Detroit Techno Militia doesn’t just play loud; it defends a culture. This T.Linder set, recorded on a Tuesday night in Australia, distils everything: Motor City fervour, the modernity of a hybrid broadcast and the militant commitment of a collective that prefers sharing to monetising. Download it, share it, spin it without restraint—because, to quote their motto, “All Detroit, none of the BS.”
In other words: the slogan snaps like a warning: DTM delivers pure Detroit sound, minus the marketing fluff and hollow compromises. Raw authenticity—direct nods to the pioneers (Atkins, Mills, UR); vinyl, sweat, dark clubs. Militant integrity—no formatted playlists, no star‑system; free mix sharing and a strong community spirit.
