Moby dit Moby in Temptation (reprise du titre du groupe New Order), album Hotel, 2005né en 1965 à New York, est un auteur-compositeur-interprète, chanteur, musicien, producteur, réalisateur artistique et photographe américain. Sa mère le surnommera Moby car son arrière-arrière-arrière grand-oncle serait Herman Melville, l’auteur du célèbre roman Moby Dick. Au détour du début des années 83, il se tournera vers la scène Techno, puis électro et connaîtra la consécration mondiale à partir de 1999 avec son album Play.

New Order – fondé en 1980 à la mort de Ian Curtis par les autres membres de Joy Division – est un groupe de new wave anglais originaire de Manchester. New Order est composé de Bernard Sumner (alias Barney, Bernard Albrecht ou Bernard Dicken) au chant, à la guitare et aux claviers, Peter Hook (dit Hooky) à la basse et Stephen Morris à la batterie. Gillian Gilbert rejoindra aux claviers les trois anciens de Joy Division au début des années 80, aux. En 2001, celle-ci sera remplacée par Phil Cunningham (ancien membre de Marion, autre groupe de Manchester).Si leur premier album Movement conserve une sonorité très proche de Joy Division, la manière de chanter de Bernard Sumner rappellant celle de Curtis, New Order intégrera à ses morceaux – rock – des sons électroniques, dance et house.

Richard Melville Hall, known as Moby in Temptation (cover of the title of the group New Order), album Hotel, born in 1965 in New York, is an American singer-songwriter, singer, musician, producer, art director and photographer. His mother nicknamed him Moby because his great-great-great uncle was Herman Melville, the author of the famous novel Moby Dick. At the beginning of the 83’s, he will turn to the Techno scene, then electro and will know the world consecration from 1999 with his album Play.
