Éric Arthur Blair dit George Orwell (1903 – 1950) in La ferme des animaux, 1945, est un célèbre écrivain, essayiste et journaliste britannique. Né en Inde et témoin de son époque, ses oeuvres porteront le sceau de son engagement : contre l’impérialisme britannique, pour la justice sociale et le socialisme libertaire, et contre toutes formes de totalitarisme (soviétique et nazi) après avoir participé à la guerre d’Espagne et avoir combattu du côté des Républicains. Il écrira notamment : La Ferme des animaux (1945) et 1984 (1949),
